We booked 2 tours with Kyoto guided walks. Chris was an awesome guide, very helpful and his local knowledge was fantastic. Chris even stayed in touch with us after the tours and gave us tips on what to do.
We highly recommend booking a tour at the start of your visit so you get a great overview on local life and must see attractions, some away from the tourist traps.
Chris is highly professional and yet so personal.
We had four nights in Kyoto and through Steve of Anywhere Travel in Sydney we enjoyed three absolutely wonderful walking tours with Chris Hall of Kyoto Guided Walks ranging from markets, shrines, street food and a few hidden treasures that he has found over the years and shared with us. Highlights were the Nishiki Market, Fushimi Inari shrine (memorable) and a meander of the Tofukuji temple and gardens. Our full day walking tour took in the backstreets of Higashiyama, Sanjusangendo Temple with its hundreds of Kannon statues (which rival Xian in China in my view) and then we walked through the artisan's neighbourhoods of Ninenzaka and Sannenzaka where Chris led us to a coffee shop owned by a delightful, elderly Japanese lady where we enjoyed our tea and coffee from Wedgewood and tried to guess which country's flag was depicted on the amazing array of origami cranes on the table. Walking the Philosopher's Path later in the afternoon was a beautiful, peaceful activity especially in the heat. Chris was mindful of the fact that we were all in our seventies and adjusted his pace accordingly. He has the most engaging manner with the Japanese people and they respond in kind. Highly recommended - don't look anywhere else, you don't need to.
We had such a great time with Chris. His friendly personality and his knowledge made us appreciate Kyoto even more. After a conversation with Chris, we chose an ebike tour and I loved it. We saw some popular tourist sites but also some local favorite spots where there was no other tourist around.
I highly recommend Chris and Kyoto guided tours, you won’t regret it.
We met up with Chris near his flat and he took us for a short tour around his neighborhood adjacent to a forested area. He took us to a small tranquil shrine where we enjoyed the early morning peace and quiet. The experience while sitting in contemplation was quite spiritual. Chris explained many things about the area and we thoroughly enjoyed his commentary. Chris has a deep passion and love of the Japanese culture and he was a joy to be with. Highly recommended.
Chris is a knowledgable and fun guide who takes great care of his clients. His enthusiastic personality makes people smile, and his interactions with kind-natured locals was a highlight of our day. We had an awesome day zipping around on e-bikes, exploring the quiet hidden gems and seeing the sights that make up this vibrant city. Would highly recommend Kyoto Guided Walks. Arigatou gozaimasu!

Just brilliance. Highly recommend. This was one of the best tours I’ve ever done. Chris is very knowledgeable and also entertaining. He takes you to the ‘must see’ sites as well as authentic Japanese places to give you real insight into their culture. Thanks again Chris we had the best two days here in Kyoto.
